The Case of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Reflection Questions
1) The major conflict between Brad and Mary in terms of the scientific process was that Mary thought that the sounds and video evidence that Brad collected could have been of any birds because according to both Mary and Brad, there are other species of bird that make those similar sounds and have similar wing distinctions.
2) I think that Brad's concern about announcing his evidence before it is too late to save the bird is very concerning towards his reputation because he is very desperate to save this bird and he is not thinking about the risks there are in basing your information on mostly assumptions and that he might harm his reputation instead of saving a bird that might not even exist.
3) I think that any owner of a company that owns logging rights ajacent ot the area of the woodpecker or another biologist trying to save another species
4) I think that the right amount of evidence would be to be able to see the bird with my own eyes. I am able to determine this answer by the amount or the items that one would be giving up to lead this conservancy the way of the woodpecker and investing in something that had been gone for a very long time and now has suddenly showed up might be a challenge to someone.
6) I think that the amount of evidence that I would need to believe that the woodpecker is not extinct would be a very clear and explicit video or to see it with my own eyes in front of me.
7) I think that not having strong supporting evidence or basing your claim on assumptions would convince me that the bird is in fact extinct.
8) I think that if I was in Brads position, I would tell the reporter "I have collected some very strong evidence in favor that the ivory-billed woodpecker not being extinct, but we are still collecting more evidence as our investigation continues."
9) To me personally, I would care about who presents the evidence because I want to know if the guy presenting the evidence has seen the bird with their own eyes, then the evidence he is presenting might be credible, but if the guy presenting the evidence was hired to just present the evidence, the evidence might not be credible.
10) In the real ivory-billed woodpecker case, Brad was the one who presented the evidence to the press at a press conference.
